I really miss Paige's voice and it is pretty obvious that I am just one of the bunch. She loved to sing and we sang together now and then while in Genova: going out in the morning with the other sister missionaries, while preparing dinner, in our pajamas before going to bed. We sang anything that would come to our minds, often completely out of tune and not necessarily with the right lyrics. I had brought a small tape recorder with me that I used as a journal when I felt the need to express some emotions that were difficult to write.
One p-day,as I was getting ready to go back home, I asked the sister missionaries to record a message for me so that someday I could listen to the tape and remember those great days. The other missionaries were a little reluctant as they probably felt uncomfortable speaking into a microphone, but not Paige. At my request, she looked at me, she smiled and she grabbed the recorder. She then laid sideways on my bed while I was preparing my luggage and she started speaking. I'm not sure of what she said exactly...unfortunately I don't remember now, but I remember that she went on for a while in her cute, fun, Italian accent ( this reminds me of another fun episode I want to write about). And I remember clearly that out of the blue she started singing!!There she was in her comfy Montana t-shirt, her hair put up in a ponytail, holding the recorder like a rock-star and singing for me. If I close my eyes I can still see her and...hear her. The day I'll get hold of that tape again I'll be the happiest woman in the world.
I believe it was that same night that a funny concert took place....She had gone to sleep already in the room next to mine. I was still up and I was still wandering through the apartment. I heard what sounded like Paige's voice and thinking that she was still awake too, I walked into her room and stopped by her bed. Well...it was indeed her voice. She was singing ...but she was asleep!!! She was hugging her pillow with her usual smile on her lips, eyes closed, and she was humming a song. I have no idea what song it was, but she looked awfully cute as she kept the rhythm moving her head! Nodding to the beat!! I couldn't believe it! She looked so happy! I covered my mouth fearing to burst into a big laugh...I din't want to wake her up. So I left the room while she was still singing...thinking of what an original girl she was even in her sleep.
Miss you so much Paige...
Stefania
Paige was fun to share a bed with. She talked in her sleep a lot. I would come to bed and she would be asleep and then she would say something to me and then I would try to engage her in a conversation. Usually it only lasted a sentence or two but it was sure fun. I think Caroline kept a journal of the funny things Paige used to say in her sleep.
