One thing ,among many, that I adored about Paige was how unpredictable she could be at times. Just when you thought you knew what to expect from her, she would surprise you with her spontaneity. One time, we were both still single, we started talking about the future and, of course, we ended up talking about men. "So, Paige", I asked, "What is the most important thing you would look for in a man to know that he was The One?". She started squinting her eyes a little, looking very thoughtful. Knowing her, I was expecting something like: "He should be responsible, honest,he should love children.."..etc..all qualities that I'm sure she was thinking in her heart anyway. Imagine my surprise when, after a very convinced "Uhmmm.." and her cute lips twist, she burst into a : " I know it might sound weird...but the first thing I would look at would be his teeth". My jaw dropped. She continued: " You know...he should have straight, white teeth and should take good care of them. He should floss often. It's very important to me. If a man takes good care of his teeth it means he can take good care of everything else". All of this was accompanied by her unique hands movements to enrich the explanation (I like to think that she was a little Italian in that sense :) ).
How I wish I could have taken a picture of that moment still so vivid in my memory. You should have seen how candid she was in her answer. I couldn't help smiling..."Really?.." and I was about to say that I was referring to something a little more profound...but then I looked at her and I kept it to myself. I had already met James at that point, not knowing that someday he would have been the love of her life.
Few years later they started dating and we had dinner together...well...that evening I couldn't help checking James's teeth as the conversation went on....and deep inside I chuckled...
James must have had really good teeth...we all know what that smile meant to Paige ; )

P.S: on the day of their reception my face looked soooooooo embarrassingly big...my cheeks were swollen...you can see that I looked like an hamster!! The same morning I'd had my four wisdom teeth pulled out...I could hardly smile, but I bet Paige was proud of me! I did indeed take care of my teeth : )
